Thursday night jazz with Ensemble Satsang
Last week was a very busy week, hence I had hardly posted anything on my blog. But I made time, however, to check out a jazz band on Thursday night. After all, a week without live music is definitely not a good week.
I headed out to the Limes Rooftop Jazz Club after hearing of a talented band called Ensemble Satsang. They are a 6-piece jazz ensemble consisting of alto and tenor saxophone, piano, guitar, bass and drums and featuring Sam O’Brien on alto saxophone, Luke Carbon on soprano & tenor saxophones & flute, Sam Moxon on guitar, Rohan Seekers on keys/ melodica, Max Fowler-Roy on bass and Lachlan Hawkins on drums.
What immediately impressed me was the fact that these young gentlemen are in fact, well, young. The youngest member is only 15 and the eldest 18 but they have a reputation that any working band would envy.
Once I heard them play I was blown away. I immediately wished that I had all my music loving friends there as I knew I would have a hard time explaining the skill and charm of this band. Playing a variety of originals, jazz classics and standards, funk, swing, be-bop, Latin jazz, cool jazz and NY Post-Bop they had the crowd mesmerised from the very first moment.
Myself – well I was their number one fan. Secretly I was hoping that I knew someone who was looking to hire a jazz band as I would have a most perfect recommendation – Ensemble Satsang.
